Joe has lectured at the UCLA School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, Duke Fuqua School of Business, Scientific American and the International Society for Travel Medicine. He has moderated conferences on medical tourism and healthcare in 20 countries, and is an outspoken advocate of affordable, high-quality medical and preventive care for consumers worldwide.


Edwin McCarthy

Edwin McCarthy, MS, MPA has dedicated his career to building international collaborations in healthcare by addressing business, financial, geographic, and cross cultural challenges. Before joining City of Hope, Ed was Vice President, International Business Development at Partners Healthcare, parent of Massachusetts General Hospital and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. At Partners, Ed focused on new patient acquisition and creating opportunities for Harvard faculty to engage in educational and clinical development overseas. Ed has in-depth experience in strategic planning and market development for leading healthcare companies. He also established the consulting practice in Saudi Arabia for Arthur D. Little, a leading management consulting firm.

Ed is currently building City of Hope’s international profile with a focus on Asia. He is interested in academic and business partnerships to expand access to high quality care in underserved areas.


JACK YUAN

CEO – Health, Chief Strategy Officer, AXA Tianping P&C Insurance | China


Jack is the CEO of Health at AXA Tianping Property & Casualty Insurance. He leads AXA’s healthcare insurance in the HNWI and affluent segments in China. Jack is also responsible for shaping AXA Tianping as a leading digital direct insurance player.

Jack has been in the insurance industry for 24 years. Prior to AXA he worked for AIG, Chubb, Swire and PICC. Under Jack’s leadership, AXA’s health business line was established in 2009, and it is now an important part of the AXA Global Healthcare organisation. He has an MA from Soochow University and a BSc from Fudan University.

Maria is currently Chief Marketing Officer for Archimedicx, a revolutionary healthcare startup. Previously she was Dell’s Director of Healthcare Marketing EMEA, a EUR600 million business unit. She has consulted over 40 companies globally; from Seed Round Startups to Fortune 500/Forbes 100. Maria has been quoted in US News & World Reports, B2B Marketing Magazine and others. She speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese.


Yanghee Woo

Associate Professor, Department of Surgery, City of Hope National Medical Center | United States


Yanghee Woo, MD, FACS, is an accomplished surgeon scientist with expertise in robotic surgery and gastric cancer. She combines the best of surgical innovation and medical science to bring individualised comprehensive cancer care to each of her patients. Dr Woo offers her patients robotic gastric cancer operations including D2 lymphadenectomy. Her research includes development of novel oncolytic viral therapies, methods of early detection in high-risk populations, surgical application of innovative technologies, and identification of biomarkers for early detection and better treatment planning.

Dr Woo serves as a member of the Society of Surgical Oncology GI working group, the SAGES Robotic Surgery Task Force, and IGCC’s International Scientific Committee. As a renowned lecturer, she has participated in national and international conferences, contributed key peer-reviewed articles, and authored several textbooks.


LAURENT POCHAT-COTTILLOUX

Global Head of Health Reinsurance Partnerships, AXA | Singapore


Laurent Pochat-Cottilloux is an experienced health insurance professional, who has spent 20 years in the industry. He is an actuary by trade, and also has an MBA from London Business School. He has worked both in start-ups (launching a UK health insurance company) and in large corporate environments (Standard Life, AXA).

In 2010 he set up a new health reinsurance hub in Singapore. Over the last few years, the team has launched a series of innovative health programs in markets across Asia-Pacific. These products cater for the mid-to high-end segments, which typically include coverage for cross-border healthcare, ie. medical travel.


Paula Keusch

Co-Founder, Check In Israel | Israel


Ms Keusch brings 25 years experience in the international business arena. Following a degree in Asian Studies Ms Keusch continued her studies in China, followed by her MBA. She resided in China for 10 years, responsible for marketing and sales of Israeli technologies and products.

For the last 15 years Ms Keusch has acted as senior executive and VP marketing, commerce and business development in cosmetics, medical devices and biotechnology in international companies, with close ties within companies such as Estée Lauder, J&J, L’Oreal. Paula grew up in the US, and is married with four children.


Dale Van Demark

Dale Van Demark advises clients in the health industry on strategic transactions and the evolution of health care delivery models. He has extensive experience in health system affiliations and joint venture transactions. Dale also provides counselling on the development of technology in health care delivery, with a particular emphasis on telemedicine. Dale advises US and non-US enterprises with respect to the formation of cross-border affiliations and international patient programs.

In addition to writing regularly on matters related to his practice, Dale has spoken at numerous conferences around the world on the globalisation of health care.


Ujjwal Rao

Dr Ujjwal Rao MBBS, PhD, MPhil, MHM, DMLE provides strategic counsel to health providers on designing world-class clinical decision support systems with Elsevier’s comprehensive suite of evidence-based information solutions. He also currently serves as an Assessor on the Panel of the Quality Council of India for the National Healthcare Accreditation Standards body, NABH.

An experienced emergency physician, clinical informaticist and technology evangelist, Dr Rao has a decade of experience serving in trust and corporate hospitals. He obtained his degree in Medicine and then specialised in Hospital and Health Systems Management, Medical Law and Ethics before completing his PhD in Quality and Medical Informatics.

Since 2012, Medical Director Vivantes Spandau Hospital.
